This is an excellent trick from CNet and is very easy to set up yourself: If you find yourself frequently needing to copy and paste file and folder paths, creating an Automator Service will make your life easier because the service then becomes accessible from the OS X Right-Click contextual menu, accessible from anywhere in the Finder. Create a “Copy Path” Service for the Right-Click Menu This trick is great if you are looking to use the path in the Terminal, otherwise it may not be as easy as the Get Info tip because it requires opening another app. Select and highlight the path to copy it to the clipboard as usual.

For most use cases and for occasional complete path access, the Get Info trick is simple, fast, efficient, and should fit the bill for most people. Get Info can also be accessed by the control-click and right-click menus.

  • Click and drag alongside “Where” to select the path, then hit Command+C to copy the full path to the clipboard.
  • Select the file or folder in the OS X Finder, then hit Command+i to summon Get Info.
  • Perhaps the easiest and most user friendly method, you can easily retrieve any file or folders path from the Get Info window by doing the following: Copy a File / Directory Path from the OS X Get Info Window I'm sorry and I feel your pain, as I'm currently going through the same issue with a mid 2012 MBP and currently boot with formerly internal disk attached to a USB 3 port.Let’s get to copying complete paths so that you can use them elsewhere.

Second option, is to attach the drive via USB or Thunderbolt cable, to the Mac, insert the installer disk and tell OS X to install on the (now externally attached) SSD/HDD. If this is a Apple proprietary SATA cable, then you'll have to get Apple to replace it and most likely, pay for repair costs (unless it's within warranty period). If the drive connects via SATA cable, then get another one and it should work. This is also why it says that it cannot install the OS X on that drive because it is trying to write the OS X files and for reason stated above, this is not possible. It doesn't know what to do anymore because it can't communicate. What your Mac is trying to do, is read from that drive but it cannot get the signal through or it is coming through and the drive may not be responding because it could be dead/defective. I'm not sure how exactly the SSD/HDD connects in an iMac but in general, this means that either the drive or the cable/connection on the drive, is faulty. SSD Speeds are already noticed! Thanks to all who commented!

Update #2: Its fixed! USB Bootable Drive with High Sierra 10.13 no update. (forum suggestion) So now I'm reloading a High Sierra image to the USB drive and see if I can install it. I fixed the Date/time via terminal but that didn't help. Update: SSD has been detected & formatted to MacOS Extended (Journaled) My bootable USB drive with SnowLeopard is giving me 'Cannot Be Installed On this Computer' error message. See if maybe I can make a USB bootable drive using Transmac. Other option is to buy the Snow Leopard CDs but right now Im downloading a copy from a shady website. I have read many many threads, nothing seems to work. Sometimes a mouse cursor appears when I hold the alt/option key. No Internet Recovery, No Safemode, No Boot Disk selection, USB thumbdrive with High Sierra installed once before on HDD now wont show up to install into SSD. No key shortcuts allow me to do anything.
